Second Opinion
Six (yes, six) extremely small CTF levels from BarneyBoy. Each map consists of two symmetrical rooms, each with two flags per room. To speed things up even more, Barney starts players off with one weapon and full ammo for that weapon; thus giving each of the six maps a theme. I can't say I was terribly impressed with any of the maps some were outright frustrating, but then CTF is not my cup of tea. Game play is reminiscent of Waldo's Arena for Marathon. All game modes supported on these mini-terrors, and bots play as well as can be expected.
Probably not a keeper.

im going to take Jays side on this one, and how did a CTF map pack that focuses on breaking every known convention of good CTF mapping make it this high up the charts? sure, MAYBE the mapper was on to something (I could see this as being a great idea for an insta-gib TDM scenario...)but FULLMO FOR EVERY WEAPON IN A CTF MAP.... seriously. you should be ashamed of yourself

Hi,
Thank you all for your comments. I read them all and some of them are valuable for the version 2 of the WTF-Q3A MapPack. The 6 maps you are playing with for now will be modified or enhanced for version 2. Also more maps in the MapPack version 2, about 15 in all, from different very good mappers around the word. Coming soon.

Well, I downloaded this for review but was beaten to it.
I think this is real imaginative mapping. The author has only used what's available in vanilla Q3 mapping and has churned a whole pack of novel gameplay.
The maps may not be high detail, but how many maps that get highly rated usually are? The build quality and texturing are, I think, faultless.
I really dig the way BerneyBoy has selected only one gun and one powerup for each map - almost like each one is a temple to that particular weapon. I was amazed how successful I was with the GL once I had to rely on it.
The Plasmagun map is my favorite, which is saying something since the PG is not my favorite weapon. It contains probably the only useful Flight Runes in Quake 3 :)
BerneyBoy obviously has good understanding of the visual aspects of Quake 3 as well as the items and tactics. He's put it all together as something novel, and he must be commended for both originality and hard work - these maps ARE more than just gimmicks.
So you might not play them all for as long as some of your hardcore favorites because the gameplay here is pretty one dimensional. But that's the point. Play them with your mates, and a refreshingly new type of fragfun can be had by all.
Think of this pak as a late Xmas present - six nifty lil stocking fillers all beautifully giftwrapped.
I'm attending a LAN party next Sunday, and WTF is my top priority - thanx BB.

i applaud the authors ambitious goal of making a unique ctf experience . the maps were not what i would call technical acheivments but i saw only one technical error in all 6 of the maps . i would prefer that the author stick to one map and i'm guessing it would be a wicked map , making 6 maps in my opinion caused the mapper to scimp on content .
i've never seen 2 flags in the same base before and thought it quite a novel idea and messing with the gravity showed your imaginative thinking .
looking forward to your next project .
map 1 was small and seem to mimick parts of q3dm1 .
map 2 was different , with the gravity settings slightly lowered once accustomed to it was good practice for my railing.
map 3 , thought playing with only grenades was not much fun . the overlapped brush joining the 2 bases in the water was a turn off .
map 4 had zero replay value , 3 minutes of flying then bumping into bots in the very small windows was annoying
map 5 was visually better with a lot more detail and atmosphore present . a novel map but i really think this should have been the rail map .
i liked it though
map 6 was fun , getting sick of the same skybox though . the detailing here in this map shows what great things we can hope for from you in the future .
overall a 7 .. really a 6 but an extra point for originality.
p.s. a reviewer who doesn't like ctf should not have reviewed this map .

Yes I really wanted the lg too :-( I played this ages ago and enjoyed it a lot. Certainly playing with only the GL is a new experience! The SG level was very frustrating over all, very hard to cap in such a closed in place. RG and BFG levels are probably highlights, both being a bit more open than the pack as a whole. It's certainly an interesting experience, and I won't lie - you won't play most of these more than once or twice - but it's well worth the download size for six megs, and if you find a single map you particularly like you can get hours out of it :-)

P.S. 8 from me though some maps get a 10 and some would earn 5s.
