Here is a quickly review them in order of my personal preference. SHALLOW - Tech style, indoor/outdoor- very good game play. Bots mostly play outside. WVIPERW - Think of Q2 The Edge combined with dmmq3dm3 (the one with the giant earth at the center). Very fast game play. PSION - Tech-style ruins. Fast game play and fun. AKUMA - Similar to any of the highly popular Q1 tourney maps (i.e. Aerowalk). Good layout and fast game play. EQUIM - just as good as Akuma but a bit more open. MYTH - Indoor/Outdoor arena set in Roman ruins. Fast game play. MONSTO - 2 separate arenas: one brown indoor/outdoor pyramid with GL & LG, and one big open tech-style 2-level room (Quad, RL & PG). This would have been my #1, but not enough weapons, and only one way to the 2nd floor on the open room. I would love to see this map in the Open Source Map Project here at LvL. AD5 - An indoor Castle style CTF map. Nicely done, but very big and mostly hallways. ASNAGRIM - 3-level map. Open with side passages, texture scheme is a bit busy. Game play is ok. BAAL-PEOR - A Matrix-like map. A City with tall skyscrapers that you can jump pad up onto. Cool concept, but it's too open for good game-play. Also underground 'joust' area is cool, but bots don't go for it. TOMC - long rectangular map with 3 ways to get from one end to the other. Very dark in some areas. WMERC - Several pyramids connected by passageways. You can teleport to a Hipdm-ish area that sends you back to a pyramid when you fall off the map. Not great game play. CHRISQ - This is a prison surrounded by water. The readme says the object is to find the Dopefish... GEAR - bathroom, lab area, lava, and a billboard of a speedmappers chat screen. Poor game play. VAARSCHA - tech-ish CTF. Very small corridors. SCAMPIE - 2-level outdoor in a quarry. Only way to upper levels is by climbing quarry wall. The map source for Scampie is available here.
Keep the first 6 or 7, the rest are good for checking out new map styles.

The poor gameplay will probably be the same for tm5 with an additional note of TOO DARK :)
Good tm guys,

(and I agree that Scampie's map should have been in the top half at least)

MYTH- you're right, it is a tech-styled map. I looked at the screenie when i was writing the review and between the trees and colors- I thought: roman ruins.
SCAMPIE- I hated putting your map last because I love your maps from Speedpack 100,99,133, etc. This map just didn't do it for me personally. (I also couldn't get the .aas file to load, but tried not to let that influence the review).

Eventually I might get around to releasing the texture set I made for my map :-P

That's funny, I remember mine being a tech/space theme with a cave. Quite how you get to Roman ruins is truely beyond me.

lots of great maps in this pak, WviperW's was the best IMO. I remember his, Akuma's, Equim's, Myth's and Shallow's being great fun to play. all of those could easily be standalone, releasable maps with a little tweaking (in fact, I believe WviperW did just that).
The rest were pretty good for the time they were given, AD5's has a great looking center area and a nice overall theme. Monsto's map is nice looking, and is an original idea, but feels a bit disjointed in the way it works. and look on the screen on Gear's map! there I am! chatting away when I should have been mapping harder ;D
Good job to all those involved.
P.S. was my map really the worst in the pak? :(
it confuses me what the reviewer means by "Only way to upper levels is by climbing quarry wall."... does he mean the staircase, or did he somehow miss that?
