This post is really a listing for the Map-Center's ..::LvLworld's Redux Jam

The point of this mapping comp is not to make a fantastic, super, unique layout, but to art the f*ck out of an existing, older release.

It is about taking a raw early layout and seeing what can be done with it visually. The intent is a show of mapping talent and artistic skill.

The rules are simple: Pick a map, remake it, but keep the raw layout. Obviously, fix issues as well.

The suggested maps that are up for redux are below, but we are open to other suggestions so long as the map was originally released before 2004 and has a rawness to it:

Edit (10th July) Added leilei's suggestion for Battle zone.

These ones I think about now and then:

lvlworld.com/media/id:540
lvlworld.com/media/id:463 a GOAT map but could have a visual refresh, given this is a pre-TeamArena terrain map before all the tricks were figured out
lvlworld.com/review/id:446
lvlworld.com/media/id:794 TACO WAGON
lvlworld.com/media/id:646
lvlworld.com/review/id:969 could also be expanded to also tribute Kyle Busch
lvlworld.com/review/id:157 PKA's version sucks, someone could do much better than both of these. Dakyne's one of my favorite Quake maps because of the dark blue/gray/lavaorange/water mix (with ambience and lightning), and none of the Quake3 remakes ever scratched that itch.

@leilei - Wow, some great choices there.

Darkayne would be really interesting to see re-worked. I was trying to stick to original maps, but yes, a good version of this map would be awesome.

Battle zone by Quid - A great choice! Has everything. Good layout, but issues that could be fixed with a rebuild. Adding this one to the mix.

This sounds like a lot of fun and pretty exciting. A number of my favorite maps are in this list so it's very compelling to me.

I've barely used Trenchbroom so I may take a stab at this but no promises.

We just officially announced the jam. Here's the full post for those of you who aren't on Discord:

Lvlworld's Redux Jam Announcement

For those who don’t know, lvlworld is the largest database of custom Quake 3 Arena maps on the internet. It has 2500+ unique releases and for this jam @Quake 3 , Tig has compiled a list of older maps that would benefit from a refresh. The goal is to keep the raw layout of these maps intact and focus solely on what can be done with them visually. This is all about showing off your artistic skill.

The rules are simple: Pick a map from the list below (other maps won’t be accepted), give it a complete visual overhaul, but keep the raw layout intact. You can decompile the original map and use that as a base, or you can remake it from scratch. You are also not bound to the original theme and you are free to take it in whatever direction you want.

In terms of the layout, we like to use Blood Covenant from Quake Champions as an example. Despite several changes and a complete visual overhaul, it’s still instantly recognizable and maintains largely the same layout and flow. So, you can knock down a wall, add a shortcut or small alternative route and so on as long as the main raw layout survives! Here are the maps:

Mustaine Madness by ParadoX
grey matter by Zippie
Atomic Flow by Cole Savage
I Like Your Hair Long by vedder
final shutdown by McBugzz
Spank Me! Chapter One by spanksteR
Blood Cage by McBugzz
Victimized by Kit Carson
Battle zone by Quid

You can let us know your pick in our jam channel and we’ll keep an updated list there for all to see. You can also suggest maps in this [topic](lvlworld.com/thread/583/0). Multiple participants can pick the same map, as long as you make sure your themes differ.

Starts July 10th and ends July 26th, followed by a public playtesting period. There will be NO extensions. Participants must give themselves the jamming role per the instructions outlined within the rules channel . Submit your map by making a post in the playtesting-forum and pinging Sprony along with the Playtesters role. Must include your .map, .bsp and a .txt readme.
