Maxell's beta release School from 2009 has a legendary status among mappers because of the level of detail, depiction of realism and straight up suggested story. As you move around the level you have a sense of the characters that would be walking the halls during the daylight hours - without meeting a single one of them. The crashed UFO takes this massive body of work to an entire new level.

The brushwork, texturing and lighting all pushed the game engine and the graphics cards in 2009 to the limits. In 2025 this is less of an issue but there could still be a problem with some set-ups.

As for game play, well, yes, there is some. It is more of a surprise and shoot, or hunt them down and take them out kind of match. Mini-trampolines (for jumppads) and teleports have been placed to help you get around, but it is not really enough when you are stuck in the kitchen and the action is in the computer lab.

If you have never played this map, download it now and take a walk around. More of a single player experience than anything else.

Note: If you have any troubles playing this release you may need to try the Quake3e or ioquake3 engine instead.
