It's hard to get people to make new Quake 3 Arena maps, especially
given that the game released over 25 years ago and the days of arena
shooters as the dominant genre are long gone. Which is why Tig from
Lvlworld came up with a great idea. He compiled a list of older maps
that would benefit from a visual refresh so that mappers can show off
their artistic skill.
Not having to start from scratch severely cuts down on the time
required for these events, while still getting new releases for the
community.
Our first attempt at this concept has resulted in 3 new maps from
DetroHogga, Obsessed and IoriDyson. That may not sound like much, but
it's more than we've seen in a while for Quake 3 Arena.
We're going to do another one in the fall. In the meantime, enjoy
these maps and get them here!

Notes:
Original:
A gothic style map, quite cool in tourney. I suggest you also try it in insta-gib
tourney! - one shot=one frag! By the way, it was modifed from the original: some
brush optimisations and I enlarged the hole near the red armor.
I'd be glad to receive any of your comment on this map or smth.

Remix:
Map-Center along with lvlworld put forward a map jam where we would remix old maps. I thought why not? I started by converting the .bsp to .map and then got to work rebuilding the hull brush by brush. Fun stuff indeed. Then it was art time. I've kept it as close to the original with a few changes here and there.
I've used a bunch of textures I made for my other map.
Enjoy :)

Map Name Spank ME!!! Chapter TWO - by DetroHogga (Original map by Spankster)
Gametype ffa, tourney
Spawn points 8
Tech nope
Additions nope
AAS yes
Levelshot yes
Description:
The map was created as part of the Lvlworld Redux Jam event on the Map-Center server.
Objective: Take a map from a pre-defined list (all maps are taken from the Lvlworld website) and rework it (retexture, add more details, change the layout if needed for gameplay).
I chose Spankster's map because I found it too bland (the original was dressed in one texture and that's it, and incredibly blocky).
Some gameplay changes were made:
1. Added a teleporter near one of the yellow armor.
2. Added ammo for the GL, allowing players to use it to its full potential.
3. Added a jump pad to the upper catwalks.
Textures are taken from DM-Maris (map for UT99)

Notes:
Original:
A gothic-style map, quite cool in tourney. It looked the most interesting gameplay-wise among the suggested maps.
Remix:
Map-Center, along with Lvlworld, put forward a map jam where we would remix old maps. I thought, why not? I started by converting the .bsp to .map and got to widen some areas first and increase some heights a bit. Then it seemed to me the map was worth adding some weapons, cause it contained only LG, RL and SG. The most controversial decision was adding a Railgun. After that, it was clear - it's worth to move/add some health and armor.
Then it was visual design time. I've used a bunch of textures I used for my older maps.
Enjoy!

Hipshot, myT, Phantazm11, FlipOut, EvilLair and Vedder (for such a cool layout for a map from 2000), Sprony and IoriDyson. I'm grateful to Tig for keeping lvlworld site alive, this was a real era for Quake3 and motivation to create maps during a long time.
Thanks, everyone!
