Map-Center recently ran a fast-paced mapping event with a simple objective: select a pre-2004 release from a short list and remix it with modern visual standards. The focus was purely on visual execution - a chance for mappers to showcase their lighting, texture, and structural talent. The tight 16-day window kept the event focused and moving quickly, though it understandably forced a few authors to pull out before the finish line.
All of the final submissions are a clear visual upgrade over their source material. They range from outright spectacular to showing strong potential that could have truly shined given a bit more time and brushwork.
The final pack includes:
Without a doubt, the entries from IoriDyson and Obsessed are the standouts of the pack. That said, DetroHogga's remix successfully evolves the original past basic blockwork into a promising Sci-Fi environment.
On the gameplay front, all three maps support Tourney and tight 2-4 player Deathmatch, with fully functional bot support included across the board. As a fantastic bonus for the mapping community, the authors have also included the .map source files with the download.
This was a fun, high-energy event, and the map-pack is well worth picking up.
Special thanks to Sprony for running the show. Here's hoping we see another jam like this soon!
